The airport routes will be given the designation of 73. There will be two routes that would provide service to Pittsburgh International Airport. At this time, there is just one route for the Airport, and this route has some restrictions in how it would handle incoming and outgoing riders. This cripples the route, and make it not as functional. I understand – there are some parts of the city that is served by other routes, and this is intended to be a flyer, but it is still counter productive. There will be multiple routes which will have no such restrictions, but there will be some adjustments in how the service will operate. The routes are as follows:
- 731E: Airport – Point Breeze
- W731: Airport – Downtown
731E: Airport – Point Breeze
The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will be a direct and to the point route. And while this route does go through Downtown, there is no other option that would make sense otherwise. The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will replace the 28X: Airport Flyer, but again – no service stops in Downtown.
The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will leave the Airport via the AirPort Expressway to connect with Robinson Town Center. The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will return to the Airport Expressway to connect with the Bell Station of the West Busway Service through the West Busway will eventually terminate to W. Carson Street. The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will use West Carson to Smithfield Street. The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will cross the Smithfield Street Bridge to connect to Grant Street, and then to Forbes Avenue. The couple of minutes in Downtown, there will be no pickups nor drop-offs as there are no safe places. The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will use Forbes Avenue to Jumonville, and then to Fifth Avenue. The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will serve Fifth Avenue until it terminates at Penn Avenue.
On the trip to return to the Airport, the 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will loop and reconnect to Fifth Avenue. The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will serve Fifth Avenue until Grant Street. From Grant, the 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will use to connect, then Blvd of the Allies to connect and cross the Smithfield Street Bridge. The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will turn onto W. Carson Street, and reconnect to the West Busway. The 731E: Airport – Point Breeze will serve the W. Busway to Bell, and then the Airport Expressway to connect with Robinson Town Center, and then the Airport.
W731: Airport – Downtown
The W731: Airport – Downtown will leave Pittsburgh International Airport, and leave in such a way where it would connect with University Blvd Park & Ride. After that, the W731: Airport – Downtown will use the Parkway West to get to the Bell Station of the West Busway. From there, the W731: Airport – Downtown will serve the West Busway to W. Carson Street, then Fort Pitt Bridge to enter into Downtown, and serve as all of the other West primary routes.
