The West Busway will be an important BRT roadway. There will be your standard busway routes, but there will also be primary routes, and flyers as well. With that said, all routes intended just for the West Busway will have a single digit with their route. Where the letter is located will depend on the route itself. There will be a goal that would be sought for. The goal will be to extend the West Busway beyond Carnegie to the county line. While it may not make sense now as there aren’t many routes that serves west of Carnegie, that is where the problem is at. If there was a busway, ACT will be able to extend ridership with a minimal investment. The only thing that needs to be done, is acquire the necessary land, and provide stops to every community along the way. The West Busway will have the following routes added:
- Glendale
- Rennerdale
- Oakdale
- Nobelstown
- Sturgeon
- McDonald
The routes are as follows:
- 1W: West Busway – Oakland
- W1: West Busway
1W: West Busway – Oakland
The 1W: West Busway – Oakland will be a brand new route providing a faster means of getting into Oakland from the west without having to transfer. The 1W: West Busway – Oakland will start at the McDonald station and serve the entire West Busway. The 1W: West Busway – Oakland will turn on W. Carson Street, and remain on there until reaching Smithfield Street Bridge in Station Square. The 1W: West Busway – Oakland will cross the bridge, and while technically entering Downtown, there will be no stop, nor any safe place to place a bus stop. The 1W: West Busway – Oakland will connect with Grant Street onto Forbes Avenue. The 1W: West Busway – Oakland will continue to serve Forbes Avenue until reaching Carnegie Mellon University.
Once the 1W: West Busway – Oakland loops to return back to the West Busway. The 1W: West Busway – Oakland will serve Forbes Avenue until reaching Bellefield Avenue where it will use to turn on Fifth Avenue. The 1W: West Busway – Oakland will remain on Fifth Avenue to Grant, then Blvd of the Allies to connect with the Smithfield Street Bridge. The 1W: West Busway – Oakland will cross the Smithfield Street Bridge to turn onto W. Carson Street to get back to the West Busway. Once it enters the West Busway, the 1W: West Busway – Oakland will serve the entire length of the West Busway.
W1: West Busway
The W1: West Busway will be simple and to the point. Its goal is to serve the entire length of the West Busway, and make its way into Downtown. With that said, the route will behave just like it currently does including the route through Downtown. There is something to consider. People using the West Busway will no longer have to go into Downtown to get to Oakland, or Uptown. They can simply take the 1W: West Busway – Oakland.
